WIDE RECEIVER STANCE & STARTS
Wide receivers are the cornerstone of every offense in today's passing game, be it in the pro- or Semi Pro area.
Good basic knowledge (Fundamentals) This position not only makes the quarterback's job easier, rather, they can be decisive for success or defeat in a game.
The stance: The first question, which foot is in front?
- Inside foot in front?
- Outside foot in front?
- Both types?
- The WR decides itself?
The choice is up to every coach. He has to choose the variant, die z.B. fits his system for timing reasons. The coaches say this: “It should be sound”. And the chosen variant should be carried out consistently.
All WRs then always look the same when they are on the line of scrimmage. Thus, you do not give the defense the opportunity before the snap on possibly. set upcoming routes.
“Inside foot in front” is probably the most frequently used variant for wide receivers for various reasons.
- When using steps (Timing Routes) instead of counting yards, to reach a certain breakpoint, is it important, always start with the same foot. On a hitch route has proven itself: 3 Long Steps; 2 kurze Steps; 2 Steps to the QB. If the WR started with the other foot, he would have to take four steps. This would make the pass route deeper and take longer.
To be able to start quickly and explosively, the feet of the receiver should be offset (Staggered Stance). The distance between the two feet should be about shoulder width and the feet should be hip width open.
- Stand across the LOS with your feet shoulder-width apart (QB in the back).
- Now turn with the upper body and the balls of the feet parallel to the LOS, your toes should now be facing the LOS.
- Place your back foot slightly outward (hip wide).
Since the receiver now has the correct exposure of the feet, now we come to the elements to be able to start explosively.
- Bend your shoulders, which are already aligned parallel to the LOS, slightly forward over your forefoot to have the "body lean" forward.
- Slightly bend both knees, you will notice, that there is more weight on the front foot approx. 70-80% front -20-30% back
Everyone will know: Sometimes it is very loud or excited during a game. It often happens in these situations, that you forget the "Snap Count": Either you start too early (False Start = penalty) or you start too late (no more timing = no caught ball).
So that doesn't happen, turn your head towards the ball. If the ball is now caught you can see everything and start in time.
Before starting, raise your hands to chest height and build body tension.
Set …… Hut.
Nein, No, only next time I will explain the start of the wide receiver to you. Until then, practice nicely, preferably in front of a mirror and always for both sides. You won't always be on the left, right??
