Great gesture

04.07.10

Autor: AGebek | Kategorie: General, Blog, Inside the Team

At a World Cup there are always players, who take a step forward. Like Manuela Scott from second division Stuttgart Scorpions Sisters. In the game for third place she could show that, what was already indicated in the first two encounters. It is able to carry the load in the attack. It made them reliable meter by meter.

On the other hand, there are players, they don't 100% of their performance. This time, she was unlucky on her side. Undisputedly she is one of the best players in Germany and was able to show at least in the second half. But Suse is more than just a good football player. She is also a good team player.

In the match for third place she was awarded the MVP honor by the organizer, because she ended up scoring two touchdowns. After handing over the helmet trophy on the field, she went directly to Manuela Scott and passed the trophy on to her. With this fair gesture, she wasn't just showing team- and sportsmanship, but also what everyone in the Germany team thought: Manuela Scott had earned the honor!

Suse got a helmet after all: We received a mini helmet from Team USA. It was passed on directly to her in thanks for her gesture.

Remember schedule

04.07.10

A new schedule every day. A new appointment every few minutes. Nobody can remember that. After running forward several times to look, I noticed how the girls do it. Thanks to the digital camera, the schedule is simply photographed and you always have it with you.

If we can find a way now, update all cameras in the event of changes, we are perfect.

Speaking of schedule. We had a different schedule here every day. Breakfast can be between 6:15 und 9:30 vary. We even had to 9:45 already had lunch. In principle we have jet lag here every day.

No electricity in the hotel

04.07.10

Autor: AGebek | Kategorie: General, Staff

On Monday we read the horror news for us. The electricity will be switched off on Tuesday - from the morning 8:00 to 11:30 und 13:00 to 14:00. The only ones, the off 13:00 should be in the house, We were. And we had a video meeting scheduled at that time.

What now?

No problem for Thorsten Kuhnert, our equipment manager. He actually had an emergency power generator with him. 500 Watts should be enough.

The next morning, when we woke up, the power was gone shortly after seven. We hadn't even printed out and laminated the gameplans. So Thorsten started the unit and took care of the necessary printouts. The offer in the kitchen was a bit limited. Coffee was only available as an instant version. The Russian boys had bunkered warm water for us too.

There was chaos in the kitchen. The four teams in front of us had left a lot of dirty dishes. Dishwasher didn't work, because the kitchen has no emergency power.

We hadn't considered a problem beforehand. Our equipment room is in the basement. And there was no more light there. But Thorstens order and the headlamps / flashlights took care of it, that we could get everything into our equipment bus.

The video session was moved forward, because the rooms were empty anyway, so that in the end all problems could be fixed. All? All but one. Since the power outage, the hotel's internet has stopped working. Everyone sat in his room, tried and cursed. Everyone believed, the fault with him and his computer. Until we heard, that the internet has problems in the hotel. It didn't work until the next day and since then it has been regularly canceled. The technician comes and drives. The problem remains.

We are… one Team

Today is the day of departure. It's been ten days now, that we crouched on top of each other almost continuously with more than sixty people. Girls, I am so proud of you! Like us in the scarce time of many years (and also some short ones) League competitors have grown together into one unit, was just great.

I already told some of you yesterday: I do not know, how to go back to normal work in the office on Tuesday, instead of worrying about a bunch of motivated female athletes, who have gone through every plan and every change without complaint or grumbling, be it impossible meal times (9:45 Uhr “Having lunch”), Training in the brush, delayed bus, fluctuating internet or other imponderables, Which one would only have shaken one's head morosely at home. The atmosphere was always great (maybe the great weather played its part) and for that I thank you.

I'm glad, that everyone pulled together and also, that nobody was seriously injured. Hopefully we'll make it onto a podium next time. My special thanks also go to the sponsors, us with Sach- and donations (Mr. Becher, DB Schenker, Rüsselsheim Wolfpack) have considered. Anzak has provided the van for us, which made it possible to take everything with you, including an emergency generator. Thanks to Natalie Munderloh and PanTrac for the T-shirts and lanyards, Real estate scout for the baseball caps. The chic jerseys come from Future Sports, Legamaster's office supplies. Everyone was grateful for the personal drinking bottles from Trinkflaschenexpress, the trainers also on the scaffolding in Strausberg from the Stötzel company and the invitation to bowling at the end of the camp in Strausberg by the racket center ensured the fun. And very important: Thanks to the many battle travelers who traveled with us, we had the best fan block of all teams behind us.

Last but definitely not least, I would like to thank the hardworking hands on the sideline: In addition to the coaches, these were the tireless equipment crew with Sonja Schmidt, Moni Trnobransky and Thorsten Kunert, the medical staff with Meike Behrens-Brammertz, Steffen Schwarz, Dr. Marco Ezechieli and Stephan Berger, as well as on the video camera standards Lück, an Computer & Camera Andy Gebek and everywhere (up to the sewing machine) Mariam Khamsi-Shtruc. Thank you very much, only with the help of your great work are we really ONE TEAM!

Excursion to Stockholm

03.07.10

Autor: AGebek | Kategorie: General, Blog

A bit of culture was on the program on Wednesday. After beating Sweden, the team was allowed to spend two hours downtown Stockholm. Since the internet didn't work again, I went with.

In fact, I waited with you. Because our bus around 9:00 did not come. When a team is late,it has to pay a fine. And what about the bus. But it wasn't too late, he didn't come at all. For it was killed 9:20 the bus of the Canadians, the for 10:00 was ordered. To 15 Minutes, Christiane had the local organizing committee in the person of Laura (the colorful blob behind the windshield), that it makes sense, when the bus drops us off downtown quickly and then drives to Canada.

So in and go. In the end we had 45 Wasted minutes. The visit was just enough for that, to walk through the shopping arcade to the castle, an arch through the old town and back again. We were able to briefly attend a small parade at the castle, for which some high-ranking politician came along. who? No idea, we also had to go back.

I learned something on the way back. I could have guessed that beforehand, but good. You never go to the toilet of a fast food restaurant at the main station. No way. After dropping five crowns, the door opened. A black hole in front of me. I feel for the light switch. It only goes on a black light. Where am I? The black light doesn't really help, but you can see every splash on the wall and every scrap of paper on the floor. Bizarre. I prefer to spare myself details. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

Otherwise the trip was short, but nice. You can come here just like that.

Greetings from Dresden

It's been a few days. Our first training in Zinkensdamm IP.

There are very strict guidelines here, as for scouting when training the other teams. It is forbidden in any form. You can't even look. Nobody, no matter if player, Coach, Staff or fan.

Sometimes it's not that easy. The training units are lined up seamlessly. And because the bus never arrives exactly to the minute, just take a look. It cannot be avoided. In addition, the stadium was full during our training. A group of athletes, soccer-playing kids, a few loitering figures. And an elderly gentleman in civilian clothes. He looked very interested. That's Larry, the Canadian head coach. Age, the beard, glasses, figure, size. Everything fits. Only the typical Canada red of the clothes is missing.

We don't care about normal viewers, but Canada? That does not have to be. So watch closely. A photo taken with telephoto. Hm, perhaps, rather probably not. Now his wife is taking notes, maybe yes?

The solution was simple. Our #40 Jana ran over to the next water break and greeted her parents. This “Spy” came from Dresden.

But what is the Japanese doing there? She films the pregame against Sweden? The next spy? Always stay vigilant…

Our internet works like a blinker

03.07.10

Autor: AGebek | Kategorie: General, Blog

goes – it does not work – goes – it does not work. Frustrating.

The last game against Canada was also frustrating. There would have been more in there. Today it's against Finland. Even if they got a lot on the bag against USA, it becomes really difficult in the game for third place. The Finns are damn fast and scored fifty points against Austria. We will have to keep up with the offense successfully, if we want to win. The last plays from the game against Canada should make us positive. The pass game worked better.

Here we go. We want this medal.

P.S. When the Internet connection stops, there are new pictures and stories today.
